Approval Process

A step-by-step breakdown of what it takes to get approved for an apartment in Brooklyn.

 

HERE IN NEW YORK, THE APARTMENT HUNT CAN BE VERY FAST PACED. SO BEING PREPARED WILL GIVE YOU THE LEG UP IN SECURING THE APARTMENT YOU WANT.

HERE'S EVERYTHING YOU'LL NEED TO GET APPROVED:

  1. Applicants should be annually earning about 40x the monthly rent.
    • This can be a combined income if you have a partner or roommates.
  2. Your Photo I.D.
    • State I.D.
    • Drivers License
    • Passport 
  3. Your three most recent pay stubs
    • If you get direct deposits your bank statements showing them will suffice
  4. Your last checking and saving statement 
  5. A tax return or W2 from the previous work year
  6. Letter of employment with your start date and annual salary

IF YOU'RE A STUDENT AND ARE NOT EARNING AN INCOME, OR YOUR INCOME IS NOT ENOUGH TO SECURE AN APARTMENT ALONE, GETTING A GUARANTOR IS YOUR BEST OPTION. HERE'S WHAT YOUR GUARANTOR WILL NEED TO PROVIDE:

  1. Guarantors should be annually earning about 80x the monthly rent or have a healthy savings account.
  2. A guarantor application form (Needs to be notarized upon approval)
  3. There Photo I.D.
    • State I.D.
    • Drivers License
    • Passport
  4. Their last three most recent pay stubs
    • If you get direct deposits your bank statements showing them will suffice
  5. Their last checking and saving statement (Any investment funds or portfolios showing assets are a big help)
  6. A tax return or W2 from the previous work year
